Join us for the Alternative Gift Market on Saturday, December 1.
Our 18th Annual Alternative Gift Market (AGM) will be held Saturday, December 1 from 10:00am - 2:00pm. This unique event provides our community with a way to purchase “alternative gifts” and to give to others in a different and more meaningful way.
The AGM offers more than 60 gift opportunities from 30 local and international organizations, including Cornerstones, FISH, OAR, Helping Hungry Kids, Kids R First, Friends of Homeless Animals, Lift Me Up, Heifer International, and many more.
Join us for a special opportunity to act on our mission of living our values and making the world a better place while checking off your gift list. Please note that 100% of what is given goes straight to the participating charities, and UUCR does NOT share your personal information with them.
Gifts available for purchase include 30 global and local charities in honor of your recipient, such as:
$75 for rent/utility assistance for a local family
$15 for school supplies for two Northern Virginia students
$10 for healthy, nutritious meals for area families
$20 for school lunches for 40 students in Kenya
$25 or $50 toward school supplies or health care in the Peruvian Amazon
$15 for healthy meals at Reston’s Embry Rucker Homeless Shelter
$25 for a night at Loudoun’s Abused Women’s Shelter
$28 for 10 books for a library in Ethiopia
Each donation comes with an attractive holiday card with an insert describing your gift. There will also be hand-made, fair trade crafts from Amani Africa and K'at Marketplace. And… don't forget our incentive for new shoppers -- $10 to the charity of your choice to the first 10 new shoppers! Whether you just joined UUCR, or are a friend or long-time member, if you have not been to the AGM before, this is your chance to have an additional $10 donated.
Volunteers are needed for this event. It takes many volunteers to run the market. This is a great opportunity to make a contribution and enjoy the camaraderie of the market. Volunteer sign-up sheets will be available soon online and in the UUCR Foyers. Please contact Denise Kirwan for more information or to volunteer.
