This year, Unitarian Universalists around the country are considering the values that are most important to us as UUs. At the end of June, delegates from each UU congregation will vote on a new and revised set of values that may become part of the Unitarian Universalist Association by-laws.
Whether this statement of values passes or not, the important thing is that we will be thinking about and talking with one another about what is most important to each of us right now and what values best reflect who, as a denomination, we want to be in the future.
Unitarian Universalism is a religion that changes as the world changes and as we learn more. As James Luther Adams famously stated, “revelation is not sealed.” We do not have a set of ultimate, never-evolving “truths.” Unitarian Universalism challenges us to keep questioning and learning.
In worship and religious education at UUCR, we will explore a different value each month from January through May. We invite you to create or capture a visual representation of what that value means to you. These are the monthly themes related to the UU values in the proposal:
November: Generosity
January: Liberating Love
February: Justice and Equity
March: Transformation
April: Interdependence
May: Pluralism
