Snow or Weather Cancellation Policy

The safety of UUCR congregants is of utmost importance.  Worship services, RE and other activities will be cancelled if it is determined that conditions are unsafe for travel.  Generally, UUCR will cancel services and other activities if the Fairfax County Parks and Recreation Department or Fairfax County Schools close facilities.  However, other factors may result in a decision to close that are independent of these organizations.

Procedures

The UUCR Minister or the Board President may decide to cancel worship services.  If neither of them is available, the Director of Religious Education or Board Vice-President may make the decision.  The Minister, Board President or the Director of RE may cancel RE, or other activities, as appropriate.

A decision to cancel Sunday worship, RE or Sunday morning activities will be made by 7 a.m. Sunday morning.  Decisions regarding evening activities during the week will be made by 4 p.m.

As soon as a decision is made to cancel any activity, the UUCR administrator will be notified and will record an announcement on the UUCR voice mail, send a broadcast email, and ask the UUCR webmaster to place a notice on the UUCR website, Facebook site and Twitter. If a text messaging notification process is in place, a text message announcing the closure will also be broadcast.

If weather conditions are questionable but worship services, RE or other activities will continue as normal, the UUCR administrator will record a voice mail update, send a broadcast email and ask the website manager to place website, Facebook and Twitter announcements.
