Nichole Hodges-Abbasi serves as Music Director and Acting Director of Religious Education. Nichole joined UUCR as Music Director in 2013. As UUCR Music Director, Nichole has developed a dynamic, diversified and integrated music program. Nichole believes that music is a shared experience, central to human life and that music is essential for our growth and sense of connectedness to one another and to the divine. This philosophy is evident in the way Nichole incorporates music into worship and the manner in which she collaborates with musicians in the church and in the community.
In the summer of 2017, Nichole's role at UUCR evolved and she became the Acting Director of Religious Education, a position she holds in tandem with her role as Music Director. This was a natural evolution as Nichole has a background in religious education and tremendous experience working with youth, both at UUCR and as a Music Teacher at Sunrise Valley Elementary School in Reston.
Nichole has a B.A. in Music Education from Fredonia State College of New York, specializing in Choral Directing and Voice. She also holds Master’s in Labor Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Nichole lives in Reston with her husband Ashar, and two young sons, Zachiriah and Tobias.
