This is the beginning of a new blog. Many of our congregants have asked me for written transcripts of my sermons. I write my sermons to be heard, not to be read by others. The manuscripts are incomplete essays – I often leave spaces or write notes like “tell story” or “watch congregation reaction and respond” rather than full text. Sometimes the sermon I give doesn’t match the sermon I’ve written. For sure, each of you hear the sermon differently than what I have on the written page.
As a professional writer, I take great care with what I publish and therefore, I simply don’t have the time in my already packed week as your minister to edit my sermons for publication. On this blog though, I will post the opening words, and a sermon except each week. I may also use this blog to share thoughts about what is happening in our world or here in Reston. I hope you’ll check it out and share it with others.
Blessings to you all.
