The Unitarian Universalist Church in Reston is seeking a three-quarter time Director of Religious Education to join our rapidly growing congregation as a senior staff member in August 2019.  It is an exciting time at UUCR: UUCR has grown more than forty percent in the past two years to 243 members and was just selected as a 2019 UUA Breakthrough Congregation.  UUCR is a Welcoming Congregation, Green Sanctuary, Sanctuary Congregation, and Sexual Safer Best Practice Congregation.  Our religious education program now serves 50 families and we are continuing to grow!

We now seek to hire an experienced Unitarian Universalist religious professional to direct and expand our religious education program for children, youth and families and serve as a senior staff member. The new Director of Religious Education will work with the minister and senior staff, the strategic planning committee, and the children and youth religious education committee to reimagine our religious education program for the 21st century.

The Director of Religious Education will direct and implement the Sunday religious education program for children, infancy through high school, including recruiting, training, screening and coordinating volunteer teachers and youth advisors; and child care coordination. In the coming year, we will be piloting a new approach to religious education for elementary age children: the Director of Religious Education will co-lead the multigenerational service one Sunday a month;  lead a monthly Children’s Chapel one Sunday a month; coordinate a  monthly social justice learning activity one Sunday a month with volunteers; and coordinate monthly lesson to elementary age children the other weeks in the month.  In addition, the Director will supervise our OWL program for our middle school youth and our YRUU group and provide oversight of nursery care. The Director of Religious Education will take the lead in evaluating the pilot effort, making recommendations for the future, and developing a congregational process for creating the vison and program for religious education in subsequent years.
