The Unitarian-Universalist Church in Reston (UUCR) is launching a new
music program this fall under the direction of its new Music
Director, Mary Ann East. Ms. East has announced plans for the
creation of adult and youth choirs supported by instrumentalists for
the presentation of classical, traditional, contemporary and pop
music. The community will be welcomed to a Coffee House, musical
workshops and concerts by both church and community choirs.
A soprano and choral Conductor, Ms East earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Indiana University and has a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance and Choral Conducting from George Mason University. She brings to Reston her diverse background of performing with symphonic choruses, studying German in Salzburg, Austria with the University of Miami Frost School of Music; and performing as a soloist, section leader, and conducting intern with the Washington Women’s Chorus resulting in rave reviews in the Washington Post and Times.
UUCR located at 1625 Wiehle Avenue at Fairway Drive, is a caring and inclusive spiritual community that promotes a responsible search for truth and meaning and believes in the inherent worth and dignity of every person. UUCR has a rich heritage as a progressive, vibrant, and active congregation, serving the intellectual and spiritual needs of its community.
Adult choir rehearsals begin Thursday, August 31, 8:00 - 9:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The children and youth choir rehearsals begin September 24.
