Program Committee Charter

Purpose:
The
purpose of the Music Program Committee is to create and maintain an
inspiring, vibrant, and innovative music program that is educational
as well as spiritually fulfilling and aesthetically pleasing.
The
committee will act to ensure a music program that supports the
worship and other musical needs of the congregation and will act as a
central resource for promoting and coordinating UUCR musical
activities.
Structure
The
regular committee will consist of a Chairperson and up to ten
persons. This number may be increased for limited durations for
special events and activities, or at the direction of the Chair.
The
Chair will be an active member of UUCR who is recommended by the
Music Committee and appointed by the Board. The Chair's
responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, calling
meetings, setting agendas, and submitting an annual report of its
activities to the Congregation. The Chair will direct a committee
consisting of at least three other people with an interest in and
appreciation of music and its role in worship.
Where
possible and appropriate the Committee will seek the advice and
counsel of the UUCR Music Director.
Responsibilities
The
Committee will:
- work
with the music director to develop and implement the UUCR music
program and support the musical portions of the Sunday service;
- conduct
an annual review and assessment of the overall quality of the UUCR
music program, and submit the assessment to the UUCR Personnel
Committee;
- work
with the music director to develop and maintain a budget for the
UUCR music program;
- develop
a long-range plan for UUCR’s music program and coordinate this
plan with other elements of UUCR long-range planning;
- work
with the Music Director to ensure the continuation of musical
offerings for those church services during which the Music Director
will be absent;
- work
with the Worship Committee to ensure that music is an integral part
of the worship service;
- assist
in Planning, promoting, and executing special musical events;
- assist
in maintaining church-owned instruments and facilitating and
planning instrument purchases.
