Welcome To UUCR!
Hi, my name is Laurie Dodd, and I am the current Membership Committee Chair.
I would like to welcome you to the Unitarian Universalist Church in Reston (UUCR) and tell you a little about UUCR and why I think it is an extraordinary religious community.
My husband, Steve, and I have been members of UUCR since 2001. We started attending in search of a place to provide a religious education for our children and were happy with the breadth and inclusiveness of the religious views taught at UUCR. We have been happy to find that the church also meets our own needs for a spiritual and intellectual community.
One of our Unitarian Universalist principles is acceptance of one another and encouragement of individual spiritual growth. Members of our congregation have come from a variety of religious backgrounds. For example, I was raised without a church, and my husband was raised Southern Baptist. You will find members of the UUCR congregation who have backgrounds in Catholicism, Protestantism, Judaism, Humanism, Atheism, Buddhism, and more. Through UUCR, we have had the opportunity to explore a variety of different religious beliefs. I love the fact that UUCR welcomes so many different people and beliefs, while insisting on our Seven Principles (described at "Our Faith" in this website). We welcome spiritual exploration, without specifying the destination in advance.
